The Academy Mentorship Program (AMP) is an exciting new initiative developed by the members of The CSBQ that partners with an inner-city school to provide free music lessons to deserving students who may not otherwise be able to afford them. Kicking off in February, the AMP will partner with Thomas Edison High School in Minneapolis.

The program’s purpose is to build positive relationships between inner-city students and adults, increase each student’s understanding and skill in music, and to develop strong leaders in the school’s band program and the community. Each student will receive 15 one-on-one lessons with a member of The CSBQ on their instrument, composition, jazz improvisation, or music theory. The session will culminate in a recital featuring performances by the students and The CSBQ that is free and open to the public.

The objectives of our program are:

  • To increase each student’s understanding and skills in music and provide an additional opportunity to perform in public
  • To build positive and lasting relationships between under-served students and adult mentors
  • To build strong leaders within the band program which will encourage enthusiasm and
    participation in band
  • To cultivate community awareness and support of the program through excellence and achievement
  • Each member of the quintet will grow as a teacher through experiences with new students and evaluations from other members
